The search for a calling
From charts and graphs to mugs and bowls, my journey to potter was delayed and unconventional. I am driven to create products that solve problems and answer questions, translating in clay to a mug that’s comfortable to hold and beautiful to look at. With data, the work is never done — there’s always new insights to be found, new perspectives to include and new stories to tell. I approach clay in the same way — challenging myself to attempt new forms, test new glaze combinations, and try new techniques.
It started with a block of clay and a promise to my future self. One day, we'll have the space to make beautiful things out of this red, grog-filled lump of mud from Vashon Island. The next five years brought us lockdowns, tearful goodbyes, and a cross-country relocation, but that 20-pound promise stayed with me. After moving from Washington to Maryland, I claimed the sunroom as my studio, bought a wheel and got to work. I had the opportunity to make pottery full-time and left a corporate career to follow my dreams. Today, I'm exploring my second act in life as a full-time potter taking inspiration from life, nature, and utility to craft your new favorite mug. Thanks for being here.
